Juxtapositioning public speaking with fearlessness

At Winchmore Hill speakers club members are always striving to get outside of their comfort zone  and push their limits.

Lately two of our members participated at the club level competition to push their boundaries to secure their place in the area contest to be held on the 23rd of March.

Rishi Gautam for the speech contest with his speech “Built by Time” and Jacob Chencha for the Evaluation contest.

Our mystery speaker was Nathaniel with their icebreaker speech serving as the testing ground for our evaluators.

Continuing on, yesterday’s meeting was a coming together of many firsts. Toastmaster Nathaniel gave a masterclass in Owning the space and being aware of your powersphere, a technique evangelised by Vinh Jiang that talks about using hand gestures at the right level to enhance speaking with confidence.

We had two ice breaker speeches from our new members.

Denise with her speech “Personal Evolution”. Her journey from a party girl and taking life as it came along to the present moment at Toastmasters.

Sandra Lokas with her speech “Why I joined Toastmasters” beginning with phrase – “If someone has told me that I would join toastmasters some years ago ….. The speech highlighted her passion for different languages and continuous learning , sitting GCSEs at an age when no one would contemplate to do and circling back to joining toastmasters.

This followed by two prepared speeches. Shaun Dinnall’s speech lacking a title but not lacking in content and expression through Body Language.

Sam Nanji’s speech “A Pleasant Fiction” that navigated the past, present and the future culminating with a call to action.

It was a special day for Sam visiting the club on his birthday and promising to win the best speaker ribbon for his son, exemplifying both public speaking and parenthood.

Yesterday was also a first for our new member Priyanka taking on the role of the ah erm counter and stepping up.

Finally we wrapped up with our much loved table topics (impromptu speaking) glibly conducted by our table topics master Rishi Gautam.
