Winchmore Hill Speakers Gavel Club

An ardent evening of public speaking

Winchmore Hill Gavel Club is an affiliate of Toastmasters International. In the year 2024, we established the club with the purpose of improving public speaking and building leadership skills of young children.

Children build self-confidence and self-awareness; we developed their ability of writing speeches, debating, and delivering speeches. We empowered them to take responsibilities and to take decisions on their leadership roles. They maximized their potential and enjoyed unlimited personal growth.

At the same time, we bring educational programs and prepare them for life developing their emotional intelligence and making them resilient, caring, and open minded to adopt to any situation.

We often tell members they are not just a member of the club, but also a member of a global organization.

Here’s some great ideas if the meeting theme is the importance of music

  1. If you had a theme song, what would it be, and why?
  2. What is the earliest piece of music you can remember loving listening to?
  3. How does music unite people?
  4. What are some of the health benefits of listening to music?
  5. What piece of music drives you crazy?
  6. Which musical instrument would you like to play, and why?
  7. What is your all-time favorite song? Why? What makes it special?
  8. What is your favorite musical genre? Why?
  9. What singer or musician do you particularly admire? Why?
  10. Why do you think some musicians become mega stars?
  11. What music has special memories for you?
  12. What music do you listen to while you work?
  13. What’s the first album you bought?

  15. What music makes you want to dance?
  16. What sort of music did your parents listen to?
  17. What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
  18. Why is it important for children to have a musical education?
  19. What types of music are most popular amongst the people you know?
  20. What makes music universally appealing?

If the meeting theme is ‘life lessons’ the speech topics could be:

  1. The time I got caught out doing something I knew I shouldn’t have been.
  2. What lessons I have learned the hard way.
  3. How I solved my procrastination problem
  4. Why looks can be deceiving
  5. How what you think about yourself shapes your life
  6. How to de-clutter and recycle
  7. Why learning you can’t please everyone will save your sanity
  8. Having money does not solve all problems
  9. That budgeting works
  10. Why, when and how to apologize
  11. That power is intoxicating
  12. How giving more is the key to getting more
  13. How to work out what is essential
  14. That learning to laugh at oneself keeps your ego in check
  15. That it’s the little things in life that count
  16. That preparation and practice are the keys to success
  17. That getting older or aging is not an excuse
  18. Why failure can be an opportunity
  19. That regret is a waste of time
  20. That education is never complete

If the meeting theme is “thought-provoking” table topics questions

What can I expect in a meeting?

In Toastmasters, everything revolves around the club meeting. With over 15,000 clubs in almost 150 countries, each club is unique in their own way. While clubs all feature the same structure, some are more formal, feature a theme, or have criteria for members to join. We encourage everyone to visit several clubs until they find one that fits their needs. To learn more about the basic structure of a Gavel Club meeting.

How do I learn and grow?

In addition to the supportive learning environment in the club, there is a structured education program called Pathways.

What is the Pathways learning experience?
Pathways is Gavel’ exciting, interactive, and flexible education program open_in_new. It focuses on five core competencies: Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Strategic Leadership, Management, and Confidence. With 11 paths to choose from (and more in development), you have the option to pick which skills you want to focus on.

How does Pathways work?
Sign into Pathways and take the online assessment, which will suggest a learning path based on your goals. As a Toastmasters member, you will receive one free path when you join. Progress through your path by completing projects, giving presentations at club meetings, and implementing feedback, all done at your own pace. Each path has five levels and you’ll start by mastering fundamentals before working your way up to demonstrating your expertise. Best of all, Pathways is available online or in print and is translated into eight languages!
